Student Conference

We are delighted to announce that we will host our annual student conference on the 3rd of December 2022.

Our student conference is designed for students in the final 2 years of the IB who are thinking of pursuing a science-based or medical course at university. Our conference will resemble a typical academic conference, but in a friendly and approachable manner, so that you can get familiarised before starting university for real.

During our conference, you will attend lectures by guest speakers, participate in workshops (ranging from CV writing to tactical decision making), and have the chance to present your IA or EE – just like in the real world!

During this one-day virtual event, you will learn about medical science, academia, and will leave the day with transferable skills and a confidence boost for their university applications.

The full programme will be released to the attendees two weeks prior to the conference. A certificate of attendance will be provided to all attendees, and prizes will be available for the best oral and poster presentation.

Early bird tickets are now available!

FAQ:

? – What is expected of me?

We expect you to attend the conference and be respectful to our speakers. It would be preferable if you could turn on your cameras if possible as it is nicer to speak to an audience with faces just like in real life, and not just names on a screen. You don’t have to speak or turn on your cameras if you don’t want to, but we do encourage participation! Don’t be scared, we are a friendly bunch, and this conference is a good way to get familiarised with the academic world as a student!

? – What is an abstract?

An abstract is a short summary of your research in which you summarise your objective, methods, results and conclusion, in max. 200 words. Based on your abstract, a jury panel will review what studies get chosen for a poster, or oral presentation at the conference. You will have the chance to let us know what type of presentation you would like to be considered for.

? – What is an oral or poster presentation?

An academic conference will typically have both types of presentations. Posters are typically printed an on display for attendees to wander past and read about someone’s research. At our virtual conference, posters will be displayed on the screen, for attendees to read during designated poster time.

The best abstracts will be chosen for oral presentations will take place in the middle of the conference. You will have 10 minutes to present your research using slides. The best oral and poster presentations will be awarded with a prize.
